What is a Hearing Screening?
A hearing screening is a quick and simple test that is designed to identify children who may have hearing loss or other hearing-related problems. The purpose of a hearing screening is to identify children who may require further evaluation by an audiologist or other healthcare professional.
A hearing screening typically involves the use of a device that emits sounds at different tones and volumes. The child being screened wears headphones and responds to the sounds with a conditioned response (e.g. put the peg in the board/put sword in the barrel).
In general, hearing screenings can be performed on children of all ages, and are often used in schools, and other community settings to identify individuals who may be at risk for hearing loss or other hearing-related problems.
It is important to note that a hearing screening is not a diagnostic evaluation of hearing function and should not be used as a substitute for a thorough hearing evaluation conducted in a hearing clinic.
