Karima and Thuvaraka are qualified audiologists accredited with Audiology Australia. Together, they have a combined 30 years of experience working in diagnostic and rehabilitation audiology in Australia and the UK, with a passion for testing children of all ages.
Karima and Thuvaraka met 20 years ago when they were studying at Sydney University during their undergraduate degree. They both went on to study their Master of Clinical Audiology at The University of Melbourne.
Fast forward to 2023, 20 years of friendship, several moves around Australia and the world, 3 beautiful babies between them and one fateful night cheekily swapping seating arrangements at an industry dinner; the girls hatched a plan to create SuperHEARo School Screenings.
Thuvaraka’s almost 5 year old daughter and her preschool classmates needed their hearing checked before starting kindergarten. Without any guidance or any clues on when, where or how, the busy parents at the preschool had no idea what to do next.
Cue SuperHEARo School Screening – a mobile hearing screening and hearing education service that comes to your child’s school so parents no longer need to worry.
Thuvaraka and Karima aim to provide an essential service at pre-schools and early learning centres to ensure every child is ready to meet the demands of learning in a classroom environment and succeed at school, and those who require extra assistance can be directed onto the right path for intervention.
